CONSIDERATE CONSTRUCTORS
The film is a journey in a loop through London's streets, where construction hoardings have become a permanent feature of the landscape. The flow of new development is mirrored by the stream of messages that saturates daily life: luxury advertisements promising exclusive living set against warnings and restrictions that increasingly limit our freedom in public spaces. In this landscape, a recurring presence emerges: the posters of the "Considerate Constructors Scheme," a voluntary code of practice designed to regulate and improve the image of the construction industry in the UK. Registered companies are required to display them on and around site hoardings. Their presence, however, does not guarantee that the developments rising behind them are truly considerate — of the local community, or of the city's needs. This film was commissioned to accompany the photographic series 'Brutal London' at the English Pavilion of the Countless Cities exhibition, Farm Cultural Park, Favara, Italy, 2019.
